Stamford
|

Stamford is one of Britain’s
finest stone built market towns, which retains
much of its medieval street pattern. Stamford
has featured in many historical films including
George Eliot’s Middlemarch, and more recently in Jane Austin’s
Pride and Prejudice. The town was on the old
coaching route from London to Edinburgh and so
boasts many fine coaching inns. The town has 11
churches, 30 pubs and 20 restaurants.to

Burghley House

Stamford is also home to Burghley House,
regarded by many as the finest Elizabethan House
in England. Burghley House was built in the 16th
century by William Cecil. There are lots of
special events throughout the year including the

Rockingham Castle

Rockingham Castle was built on
William the Conquerors orders.
Famously a Royalist stronghold, the
castle was appropriately the setting
for the BBC TV series, 'By the Sword
Divided'. Lived in for the past 450
years by the Watson family, the
castle is a fascinating place to
visit and holds events throughout
the year.

Grimsthorpe Castle

The castle is the centrepiece in
this 3,000 acre estate. The park has a wide

Woolsthorpe Manor

Woolsthorpe is a
small 17th century manor house and
the birthplace and family home of
Sir Isaac Newton. The manor’s
orchard includes a descendant of the
famous apple tree. The manor also
has an interactive exhibition.

Roosevelt described Easton Gardens
and a 'Dream of Nirvana, almost too
