Stamford Festival

Stamford festival will be running from 27th June to 5th July 2009

All details on this page are courtesy of the Stamford Festival website.

Stamford Festival was founded in 1980 and now celebrates it's 28th year.

The Town Festival provides a week of events for the people of Stamford, courtesy of the Stamford Festival Commitee, the Stamford Kiwanis and Stamford Lions.

Music on the Meadows is also a tradition originally started by the Stamford Festival and today carried on by Martin Smith in the form of the Riverside Festival.

This fantastic event offers live music, free to the people of the town.

The Parade of Floats has also remained throughout the Festivals history, enjoyed by both the people of the town, and the participants, usually local clubs and schools.

Festival Sunday

Festival Sunday was traditionally been organised by members of the Festival Association.

In 2001 the Festival Sunday was taken over by Stamford & District Lions Club. Building on the strong foundation they inherited there now is a great Family Fun Day.

Stamford & District Lions Club was Chartered in 1975 and is part of Lions International, a network of over 1.3 million men and women, in 205 countries and geographical areas who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world.

Lions are ordinary people doing amazing things; our motto is “We Serve”. The annual Family Fun Day is one of our main fundraising events and we are proud that every penny received from the public is used for charitable purposes, all administration costs are met by the membership.

Parade of Floats

The parade of floats has been run by the Stamford Kiwanis for many years with lots of varied themes such as '75th Anniversary of the RAF' in 93', '100 years of Cinema' in 96', 'Great Moments of the 20th Century' in 99' to 2007's 'Fairytale and Fantasy'

About the Kiwanis

Who are the Kiwanis?

Kiwanis is a global organisation of volunteers dedicated to changing the world.

The name “Kiwanis” means “we share our talents.” It was coined from an American Indian expression, Nunc Kee-wanis.

Stamford Kiwanis Club dates back to January 1976 when Barclays Bank Manager Alan Bingham received a letter from John Ritchie, Manager of the Royal Bank of Canada, Niagara Falls Branch.  He outlined that the three Kiwanis Clubs of Stamford - Ontario, Stamford - New York State and Stamford - Connecticut  wished to sponsor a Club in Stamford England.

With support and additional sponsorship from the existing English Clubs of Harlow and Stevenage the requisite number of founding members was obtained on 17th December 1976 and the Club Charter was presented at The George Hotel in Stamford on 30th September 1977.

Kiwanis in Europe have grown to over 1200 Clubs, although there are only six Clubs in the UK.

Riverside Festival

The Riverside Festival has been the finale of the Stamford Festival for over 25 years, originally titled Music on the Meadows. For the past 9 years it has been run as the Riverside Festival, and in 2007 it was registered as a not-for-profit limited company and charity.

Riverside is an open-air music festival held annually on the first Saturday of July, on the meadows in Stamford, showcasing at least 30 bands and artists, usually more, mostly from the surrounding area, on at least 3 main stages - the Riverside Stage, the Marquee Stage and the Acoustic Stage.

But the Riverside Festival is not just about music. There are fairground rides; a variety of children's entertainment; food, craft and trade stalls; Stamford’s BIGGEST and BEST beer festival; and a SPECTACULAR fireworks finale.
